Natomas Unified School District Joins Statewide School-Based Effort To Enroll Families Into Affordable Health Coverage Before February 15 Covered California Open Enrollment Deadline

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (January 24, 2015) – On Saturday, students, families, educators, and community members came together at Natomas High School to learn about and enroll into affordable health coverage. The enrollment event was part of The Children’s Partnership’s ALL IN for Health 22-day statewide campaign with schools, early learning centers, and after-school sites across the state to help inform all eligible families about available health coverage opportunities and connect them to coverage ahead of the Covered California open enrollment deadline on February 15.

“Today’s ALL IN For Health enrollment event at Natomas High School is just one of the many ways that schools across California can help families connect to affordable health coverage before the February 15 open enrollment deadline,” said Peter V. Lee, Executive Director of Covered California. “When schools are dedicated to spreading the word that health coverage is now within reach, we can make sure that every eligible Californian gets the security and peace of mind they deserve.”

“I’ve personally seen how difficult it can be for a sick or hurting child to focus on school work,” said Carol Williams, executive director of Special Education and Student Services at Natomas Unified School District. “Healthy kids make better learners. And community events like this provide a perfect opportunity for parents to get their questions answered, research their options, and to sign up for affordable health coverage that will benefit their family all year long.”

“Today’s ALL IN For Health enrollment event at Natomas High School is a great starting point in creating a culture of coverage within California schools,” said Teri Burns, Vice President of the Natomas Unified School District Board of Trustees. “It’s important that we use the momentum we built today to get as many families enrolled through Covered California before the February 15 open enrollment deadline—and raise awareness that Medi-Cal enrollment is year-round.”

“Schools are a natural onramp to connect thousands of uninsured children and families to health coverage. That is why the ALL IN For Health Campaign has partnered with schools across the state to educate families about health coverage opportunities and make sure eligible families get the enrollment assistance they need,” said Wendy Lazarus, Founder and Co-President of The Children’s Partnership. “We applaud the commitment of Natomas Unified School District to educate families throughout the community about the availability of affordable health coverage and to offer opportunities for families and individuals to enroll.”
