TCP Leads Advocates to Push for Continued Action from Governor Newsom for COVID-19 Impacted Families Left Behind by Federal Support

In collaboration with 11 child advocacy organizations, The Children’s Partnership submitted a letter to Governor Newsom thanking him for his steadfast and responsive leadership and respectfully requesting urgent action in key areas to further protect the health and wellbeing of California children who are some of the most vulnerable to the consequences of COVID-19.

In response to the rapid spread of COVID-19, federal leaders have enacted three relief packages intended to provide support for public health responses; economic assistance for affected workers, businesses, and households; and fiscal relief for state, local, and tribal governments. These federal supports are significant and needed.

But they are not enough, particularly to help children and their families.

Millions of Californians are experiencing threats to their health and economic security, and for immigrants who have been excluded from federal relief efforts, the economic hardship and health risks are particularly paramount. Our letter asks Governor Newsom to address gaps and areas of need where there is significant underinvestment for children and their families who are experiencing the most severe effects of the economic crises and health pandemic.
