Websites for Parents
The Children's Partnership has gathered a collection of useful Web sites with information that is particularly relevant to parents. These sites are some of the resources that we have found most helpful, though there are many others.
EDUCATIONAL ATTAINMENT
National PTA
National PTA is the largest volunteer child advocacy organization in the United States and is a not-for-profit association of parents, educators, students, and other citizens active in their schools and communities. PTA is a leader in reminding our nation of its obligations to children. National PTA provides resources for parents to stay involved in the life of their child every day.
Preparing for College Guide
This guide is aimed at parents in order to help them or their child prepare for college. This site states that parents should start saving - even if they can only afford to set aside a small amount - when their children are very young. The site also states that academic preparation for college also must start early. This site presents a 10-step program for parents to help ensure that their child goes to college.
Factmonster
The Fact Monster site combines reference materials, fun facts and features, and individualized homework help for kids. It is geared toward parents and educators as well as kids.
IMPROVED HEALTH
Tufts University Child and Family Web Guide
The WebGuide is a directory that evaluates, describes, and provides links to hundreds of sites containing child development research and practical advice. Topics are selected on the basis of parent recommendations; they cover all ages, from early child development through adolescence.
Families USA
Families USA is a national nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to the achievement of high-quality, affordable health care for all Americans. This site serves as a consumer clearinghouse for information about the healthcare system and has a section devoted specifically to Medicaid and children’s health.
American Academy of Pediatrics
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) – an organization of 60,000 pediatricians – is committed to the attainment of optimal physical, mental, and social health and well being for all infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. The AAP site offers child health information covering everything from immunization and obesity to breastfeeding and injury prevention.
KidsHealth
KidsHealth, sponsored by the Nemours Foundation, provides medical information for parents, kids, and teens, presented in a fun, interactive way. The site is also available in Spanish.
ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY
National Collaborative on Workforce and Disability
The National Collaborative on Workforce and Disability for Youth (NCWD/Youth) assists state and local workforces develop systems to better serve youth with disabilities. The NCWD/Youth, created in late 2001, is composed of partners with expertise in disability, education, employment, and workforce development issues.
The Mint
First developed in 1997, the Mint Web site now provides more tools to help parents as well as educators teach children about sound money management and establish good money habits at home.
Families and Work Institute
Families and Work Institute (FWI) is a nonprofit center for research that provides data to inform decision-making on the changing workforce, changing family, and changing community. Founded in 1989, FWI's research typically takes on emerging issues before they crest.

The Innovation Center for Community and Youth Development
The Innovation Center for Community and Youth Development unleashes the potential of youth, adults, organizations, and communities to engage together in creating a just and equitable society. In partnership with community organizations, the Innovation Center is exploring the link between civic activism and youth development.
Girls Inc.
Girls Incorporated is a leading advocacy organization dedicated to extending girls' voices, issues, and concerns to policy-makers, corporations, and the media. Their Girls' Bill of Rights serves as the foundation for all of their work. These rights shape their responses to the difficult social issues facing girls, and serve as a platform for empowering them.

Common Sense Media is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to helping families make the best media choices for their kids.
GetNetWise
GetNetWise is a public service brought to you by a wide range of Internet industry corporations and public interest organizations. The GetNetWise coalition wants Internet users to be only "one click away" from the resources they need to make informed decisions about their and their family's use of the Internet.
Net Family News
New Family News is a nonprofit public service providing weekly "kid-tech news" for parents and educators in more than 50 countries. This site is based on the premise that informed, engaged parenting and teaching are essential to kids' constructive use of technology and the Net.
NetSmartz
The NetSmartz Workshop is an interactive, educational safety resource that teaches kids and teens how to stay safer on the Internet. Parents, guardians, educators, and law enforcement also have access to additional resources for learning and teaching about the dangers children may face online.
Wiredkids.org
Wired Kids, Inc. is dedicated to protecting all Internet users, especially children, from cybercrime and abuse. It operates several programs and Web sites designed to help everyone learn how to protect their privacy and security online and to teach responsible Internet use. Wired Kids is best known for its expertise in child, teen, and parent Internet safety programs.
