Setting the Children's Agenda on Emerging Issues

Since its inception, The Children's Partnership has had a unique role in child advocacy: to identify and research emerging issues that impact large numbers of America's children and to set forth the action agenda to benefit children. Repeatedly, the Partnership has published groundbreaking research at the moment when it was useful to define trends and has put forward agendas that made positive contributions to children's health and well-being. Examples include:

America's Children & The Information Superhighway: A Briefing Book and National Action Agenda
The first comprehensive look at how computers and the Internet were changing the way children learn, grow, socialize, and find opportunity. (1994)*

America’s Children and the Changing Policy Environment: A Strategic Audit of Activities and Opportunities (1995)*

The Parents' Guide to the Information Superhighway: Rules and Tools for Families Online
The first comprehensive guide for parents about how to keep kids safe while guiding their children--and those in their schools and community--to productive activities online. (1996)*

Online Content for Low-Income and Other Underserved American
While efforts to expand computer and Internet access were taking off, this was the first study to look at the content needs of underserved communities.  This report and the subsequent criteria  we produced became the guidelines for developing content for a wide range of libraries and for public and private sector online efforts to benefit communities.
