The Soroptimist Ruby Award: For Women Helping Women
- March 2010
The Los Angeles Chapter of Soroptimist International named Wendy Lazarus
the recipient of the Ruby Award, which honors women who, through their
professional or personal efforts, are making extraordinary differences
in the lives of women or girls. Honorees are women who have worked
to improve the lives of other women and/or girls. Their work has
had a significant impact on the local or global community and it
inspires and encourages other women. The program begins at the
local-level where clubs recognize a woman in their community. Clubs
submit their entry to the region-level where the region selects a woman
to honor at the region conference. At the federation-level, one woman is
selected to receive a $5,000 donation to her favorite charitable
organization.
Soroptimist International of Los Angeles (SILA) is a
501(c)3 charity dedicated to improving the status of women.
Organized in 1922, SILA is part of an international organization of over
90,000 women with programs in all parts of the world. For over 80
years, SILA has been providing continuous service to the Los Angeles
Community, with a special focus on making a difference for women of Los
Angeles.
